Today, Thursday Island is the administrative centre of all the Australian islands between Cape York and the New Guinea mainland. Almost 70 percent of the population of 3,000 are Indigenous Torres Strait Islanders. See the cannons at Green Hill Fort, where underground tunnels house the Torres Strait Historical Museum, and Gab Titui Cultural Centre, which exhibits historical artefacts and contemporary Indigenous art.

  12. Day 12 - Sandy Cay, Creech Reef

Creech Reef, on the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef, is 60 kilometres from the mainland of Queensland’s Far North. Coral reefs spread 40 kilometres wide, comprising some of the most biologically diverse ecosystems on Earth. The secluded Sandy Cay is like your own private, tiny island in the middle of the Coral Sea.

Go kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding or snorkelling around this unforgettable reef. You’ll feel like enjoying a perfect day in paradise.
