Visit the northernmost capital of the world and bask in its remarkable remoteness. Home to nearly two-third of Iceland’s population, Reykjavík’s magnetic charm attracts locals and tourists alike. The cityscape of Reykjavík speaks of the ingenuity of its people – from the multi-coloured houses in Þingholt to the Harpa Concert Hall, whose design was inspired by the basalt landscapes of Iceland. With popular musical exports such as Björk and Sigur Rós, Icelanders’ intrinsic creativity was never in question. Soak in the dramatic landscapes and soul-soothing tranquillity of this glorious nation as you travel to quaint towns and villages that are home to some of nature’s greatest wonders, including the Deildartunguhver Hot Spring, the Gullfoss Waterfall, the Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon, and the wonderfully relaxing Blue Lagoon. Cruising through majestic fjords and by spectacular glaciers on board Scenic Eclipse will be unlike any other. 22 Day Itinerary

  1. Day 1 - Reykjavík

    Welcome to Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland. Your wondrous journey begins with a two night stay.

  2. Day 2 - Reykjavík

    Reykjavík, the world’s most northerly capital, has something for everyone – numerous enlightening museums, gourmet restaurants, creative architecture, and a vibrant nightlife, all wonderfully set within the spellbinding landscape of snow-capped mountains and cerulean seas. On an informative walking tour, you will explore all the hidden jewels the city has to offer. Visit the Hallgrímskirkja Church, the colourful houses of Þingholt, the 930 AD structure of Alþingi Parliament, the Old Harbor, Harpa Concert Hall and the Sólarið Sculpture, all while being entertained by your guide’s creative storytelling.

    Visit a variety of Reykjavík eateries on a culinary exploration, from restaurants to food trucks, and sample a selection of traditional dishes and street food including Icelandic cheese, lamb, homemade ice cream, and the famous Icelandic hot dogs.

    This evening, join your Tour Director and fellow travellers for a welcome dinner.

  3. Day 3 - Reykjavík > Borgarnes

    After you bid goodbye to the vibrant capital city, make your way to the peaceful farming district and valley of Borgarfjörður, a wonder set amidst mountains and glaciers. Head to Deildartunguhver, one of the world’s largest hot springs. See the twin waterfalls Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, then experience an ‘Into the Glacier’ adventure. Continue on to Borgarnes for your one night stay.

  4. Day 4 - Borgarnes > Golden Circle

    Your grand adventure along Iceland’s famous Golden Circle begins here. Enjoy local experiences along the way with visits to authentic family run farms. Explore the untouched beauty of Thingvellir National Park, and its history as the original, outdoor site of Iceland’s first parliamentary assembly in 930 AD. View the extraordinary Thingvellir rift, the split that defines the borders of North America and Eurasia. At the Gullfoss Waterfall, marvel at the double-tiered falls and maybe even catch sight of its famous rainbows in the mist. Next, visit the incredible geothermal region of Geysir, known for its hot springs and geysers. Take in the bubbling pools and steam vents, and see Strokkur, a waterspout that shoots to around 98 feet (30 metres) in the air. For the next two nights, you will stay in Ásborgir.

  5. Day 5 - Golden Circle

  6. Day 6 - Golden Circle > Kirkjubæjarklaustur

    Head south to the village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur, home to some of the world’s most impressive geological formations which were created during a volcanic eruption that occurred between 1783 and 1784 – the largest eruption since the settlement of Iceland. The walking path along the eastern edge of the Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon offers stunning views over the plains and glacial brooks below. Eldhraun is a wide lava field that has thick green moss enveloping the jagged and hard edges. The colours are striking with the bright greens of the moss against the smoky hues of lava and the blue skies. Later, check into your hotel, your small and intimate Special Stay hotel for one night, located in one of the most beautiful regions in Southern Iceland.

  7. Day 7 - Kirkjubæjarklaustur > Blue Lagoon

    Cross the sandy desert of the south coast to the coastal town of Vík, and stroll along the black sand beach and admire the Reynisdrangar, high basalt columns in the sea. Continue to your hotel, your Special Stay for the night.

  8. Day 8 - Reykjavík

    Board Scenic Eclipse this afternoon. Meet the Captain, crew, and your Discovery Team before setting sail on your voyage.

  9. Day 9 - Dynjandi (Fjallfoss)

    Weather depending, today we visit the jewel of the Westfjords. Stand back and admire the cascading bridal veil and discover why it was nicknamed ‘the thunder’. Made up of seven waterfalls, it is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland.

  10. Day 10 - At sea

    Cruise from Iceland across the Denmark Strait to the east coast of Greenland. The Discovery Team will enthrall you with their knowledge and passion for this region. From your suite's verandah, scan the horizon through your included binoculars to look for whales.

  11. Day 11 - Fridtjof Nansen Halvø

    Unlike the rest of Greenland, the Sermersooq municipality where the  Fridtjof Nansen peninsula is located, is smooth and unbroken, with the magnificent Greenland Ice Sheet flowing right to the shore. Umivik Bay is the location where Fridtjof Nansen launched his pioneering Greenland venture, the expedition that confirmed that Greenland was completely covered in ice.

  12. Day 12 - Skjoldungen Fjord

    Glaciers calving, rivers flowing, towering rock walls and colourful forests, the Skjoldungen Fjord is spectacular.  Weave through the numerous icebergs on board Scenic Eclipse, and learn of the archaeological remains that have been found in this region, indicating to people living here over 4,000 years ago.

  13. Day 13 - Cruising Prince Christianssund

    Carving a breathtaking, naturally formed path separating the mainland from the islands of Cape Farewell, Prins Christianssund is one of Greenland's most scenic waterways. Over a hundred kilometres in length, and flanked by magnificent glaciers and granite cliffs, this narrow passage is only accessible during summer, when the largest ice blockades melt away. Scenic Eclipse brings you close to the towering glaciers, huge icebergs and imposing peaks for unmissable photo opportunities.

  14. Day 14 - Narsaq

    The most striking agricultural town located on the edge of a fjord, Narsaq is known for its Greenlandic 'cowboys',  and is a region of lush agricultural land where sheep farming and cattle ranching take place. It also has an intriguing Norse history. In the 1960s, a long house was unearthed and is believed to be the very first place Eric the Red settled. Discover this quaint town and its close connection to nature and visit the Narsaq Museum to learn about Norse history.

    Walk around the town or Narsaq, and see the mixture of modern living and ancient traditions, or taste some Greenlandic specialties at the Hotel Narsaq.

  15. Day 15 - Paamiut (Frederikshåb)

    Wildlife lovers will delight, with 20 species of whales frequenting the area, and an abundance of falcons. Keep look out for the white-tale eagle, known as Nattoralik, said to bring good luck to anyone who spots it. Wander through the township past the wooded Friedenskirche, a charming Norwegian style church, and admire the multitude of brightly coloured buildings.

    Join your guide for a hike towards the Blue Mountains to get a view of the entire town from above, or hike towards the Sermilik Fjord.

  16. Day 16 - Nuuk (Godthåb)

    Nuuk means ‘headland’ or ‘cape’ in Greenlandic. The capital and largest city in Greenland, Nuuk has been inhabited by many settlers over the centuries, but the present town was only established in 1728. A guided tour through the picturesque Old Harbour reveals history and traditions that still remain strong.

    Explore Nuuk by bus or on a guided walking tour or meet a local family and hear stories of past and present. Choose to taste some Greenlandic specialties or try the local Greenlandic beer at Greenland’s largest microbrewery.

  17. Day 17 - Evighed Fjord

    Meander through the Evighed Fjord or “Eternity Fjord”, listening as chunks from the ice cap break away and collapse into the water. Gaze up at the highest mountains in West Greenland, watching as the mist swirls around them.

  18. Day 18 - Ilulissat

    Ilulissat is named from the Inuit word for ‘icebergs’. Formerly called Jakobshavn, the town is best known for large number of icebergs breaking away from the nearby Ilulissat Icefjord, into which one of the world’s fastest moving and most active glaciers calves 46 cubic kilometres of ice annually. Listen for the rumbling sounds in the distance of icebergs calving from the Sermeq Kujalleq Glacier.

  19. Day 19 - Upernavik

    The Upernavik archipelago the known as the bay of islands and ice. A town of only 1,100 inhabitants, Upernavik, is located on the picturesque Archipelago consisting of over 100 rocky islands. Officially founded in 1772, this area had been explored by Inuit hunters much earlier. A Viking runestone was also found in 1824 atop Kingittorsuag, an island some 20km to the north of Upernavik, and has been dated to around the mid-13th century.

  20. Day 20 - Disko Bay

    Spectacular days await as you cruise Disko Bay. Renowned for its pristine icebergs and glorious glaciers, stand on the Observation Terrace or your private verandah and listen for the remarkable sound of a calving glacier echoing across the fjord.

  21. Day 21 - Sisimiut

    Sisimiut is the second largest town in Greenland, and means ‘the people living in a place where the fox dens’. Stroll past the brightly coloured houses to explore one of the most widespread and beautiful backcountry areas in Greenland.

  22. Day 22 - Kangerlussuaq > Copenhagen

    Your cruise ends this morning in Kangerlussuaq as you bid farewell to the crew and fly to Copenhagen. 

    Please book your flight to depart out of Copenhagen after 08:00 PM.
