Here are six highlights as you cruise along the second longest coastline in the world on the Baja California & Sea of Cortez voyage.

1. Follow in the Footsteps of Famous Explorers

In the state-of-the-art theatre on board Scenic Eclipse, enjoy an in-depth lecture by the Discovery Team. Each are experts in their field, sharing unique insights into this region so you gain a deeper understanding. Today, they will share the history of the Sea of Cortez, named after the ruthlessly ambitious Spanish Conquistador Hernán Cortés. His 1519 Mexican expedition notoriously caused the fall of the Aztec Empire and Spain's occupation of Mexico.

He's not the only historical European figure to be geographically immortalised. In 2009, Isla Cerralvo was renamed to "Isla Jacques Cousteau" in celebration of French oceanographer Jacques Cousteau, who led several underwater expeditions in the area. This region and sea was famously labeled "The World's Aquarium" for its wide range of exotic fish and incredibly clear ocean waters.

2. Snorkel in the Sea of Cortez

Now that you’ve learnt a little about the history of the Sea of Cortez, it is time to explore these legendary waters. Home to one of the largest varieties of marine life, the Sea of Cortez is amongst the most biologically diverse and beautiful seas in the world. It offers guests the opportunity to get up close and personal with some incredibly unique species.

Meet with the Discovery Team on Scenic Eclipse’s marina for guided kayak of the idyllic waters surrounding Isla Monserrate. This uninhabited island is home to some of the calmest waters in the region, with an abundance of colourful fish, manta rays, sea turtles, dolphins, and whales.

3. Visit Mexico's Most Beautiful Beach

Innovative design, state-of-the-art technology and a wealth of world-class facilities ensure Scenic Eclipse can navigate into the most unique ports, that other larger ships can’t reach. One of those is Ensenada Grande beach on Isla Partida, which is considered the most beautiful beach in Mexico.

Boasting white sand, calm turquoise waters and a looming volcanic backdrop, this UNESCO-protected biosphere reserve is uninhabited by humans. Instead, the island is home to a diverse range of sea life, visible beneath crystal clear waters. Swim, snorkel, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard along the stunning shore, or take in this breathtaking location with a guided hike through its mountainous biological reserves.

4. Eat and Drink like a Local

Baja's Mediterranean climate, abundant sea life and rich soil support a thriving wine and culinary scene. Explore the colourful local food markets with one of our on board chefs in Cabo San Lucas, and get your hands on fresh, locally sourced ingredients before preparing traditional Mexican dishes during an immersive cooking experience. Indulge in a glass of award-winning local wine from a neighbouring winery with your meal or do as the locals do and sip on authentic Mexican tequila.
