Mark Baker

Mark is a freelance journalist and travel writer based in Prague. He has written articles on Poland, the Czech Republic and Austria for National Geographic Traveller magazine. Mark has also authored more than a dozen guidebooks on Eastern and Central Europe.

Susan Seubert

Award-winning travel and editorial photographer Susan Seubert has photographed more than 20 feature stories for National Geographic Traveller. During your cruise, Susan will share her in-depth knowledge of digital technologies and her multimedia skills.

Don George

In August, travel with award-winning travel writer and speaker Don George, an editor at large for National Geographic Traveller. Having written about living in France for over four decades, he is especially passionate about Bordeaux for its wine, cuisine, culture and history.

Gianluca Colla

Originally from Italy, Gianluca Colla has traveled and photographed around the world, from the Arctic to the Antarctic Circle, from Africa’s deserts to the Amazon and to the Alps.

Stephen Alvarez is an award-winning photographer and filmmaker who produces global stories about exploration, adventure, culture, and archaeology. He has published more than a dozen feature stories in National Geographic magazine.

Jan Nijman

Jan Nijman is Distinguished University Professor in Geosciences and director of the Urban Studies Institute at Georgia State University. Jan has been affiliated with National Geographic for more than 15 years.

Meet the National Geographic Expert

Paula Swart

Paula Swart is an expert on Asian culture and history with a special interest in Buddhism, and has been a museum curator for more than 20 years. A popular expert on more than 30 expeditions for National Geographic , her travels have taken her to Southeast Asia numerous times. She recently organized the Visions of Enlightenment exhibition on Buddhist art, which featured pieces from Myanmar (Burma). Paula holds degrees in archaeology, Asian art history, and Chinese history. She speaks five languages, including Mandarin, and has published several books and numerous articles on the art and architecture of Asian cultures. Paula also studied and lectures on artifacts from the wreck of a Dutch East India company ship that was found off the island of St. Helena and documented in the October 1978 issue of National Geographic magazine.
